Tendulkar hits his 40th Test century
6 Nov 2008Sachin Tendulkar hit the 40th Test century of his career in Nagpur today to help India step closer to winning the series against Australia.
Tendulkar, the highest run scorer in Test cricket history, included 12 fours in his 109. He shared a fourth-wicket stand of 146 with VVS Laxman (64).
With Virender Sehwag making 66, India, needing a draw to win the four-match series, closed on 311 for five.
Aussie off-spinner Jason Krejza took three wickets on his debut.
Tendulkar, meanwhile, has asked the selectors to be excused from the first three one-day internationals against England.
The 35-year-old wants a rest following the present Test series but will be available to face Kevin Pietersen's side later this month.
