Bad start won't faze confident Mackay

Malky Mackay is confident he can get Watford out of trouble despite losing his first game in charge.

Lee Williamson gave Watford a firsthalf lead but Swansea roared back to win 3-1 and condemn the visitors to their fourth defeat in a row.

Mackay is in caretaker-charge at Vicarage Road and, bizarrely, Watford now play Swansea again tomorrow -this time in the Carling Cup.

"I am bothered about the Carling Cup, especially in the position I am in at the moment," he said. "We've instilled a bit of confidence into the team and I can take some positives into the next match.

"I thought the players showed an immense amount of energy and effort. I gave them the freedom to go and express themselves in the opposition half. Until their second goal I thought it was an even game."

Crystal Palace defender Clint Hill believes the side can build on their 2-0 win at Coventry.

Hill, who scored along with Ben Watson to send Palace up to 16th in the table, thinks the team can capitalise on the return of James Scowcroft and Alan Lee.

"This win will give us a lift, and now we have a couple of strikers coming back from injury," he said.

"We really want to kick on now. Our aim is to push on again like we did last season, but hopefully we will have a bit of luck when we need it."

Charlton manager Alan Pardew kept his cool despite facing more questions about his future after a 22 draw at Plymouth.

A Kelly Youga header and Andy Gray penalty looked to have sealed the points for Pardew's men, but Emile Mpenza netted in injury-time.

"Pressure comes with the territory," Pardew said

"I don't harp on too much about it. I've been in management for nine years and have had to come through various scrapes.

"I'm sure Icouldn't prepare the team any better than I did for this one."

Queens Park Rangers midfielder Lee Cook wants Gareth Ainsworth to be given the manager's job after he led the side to a 1-0 win over Cardiff.

Gavin Mahon's header 10 minutes from time proved enough to separate the sides and winger Cook thinks caretaker-boss Ainsworth deserves to be given the role full-time.

"I want Gaz to be made permanent," he said. "I love him. I played with him for three years and roomed with him for a year.

"This is a learning experience for him but he knows this team."

I agree with Rob Wattie. MacKay should get rid of Jobi McAnuff & other light weight players.

Not a great start under Malky, a word of advice drop Jobi McAnuff, this guy will take you down. He is lazy, overrated & overpaid.
