St Albans are flying as tour battle hots up
11 Nov 2008The prize of a place on tour to New Zealand and Fiji has helped St Albans become the Standard's October team of the month.
Head of rugby Chris Hudson praised the sixth form boys' hard work and dedication - and said competition for places on next year's trip had driven the team.
Rugby is booming at St Albans, the first XV having won 12 out of 13 with one draw despite a tougher fixture list this year. Captain Rory Grant, a lock, has led from the front and the back three have mopped up most of the tries from wide out. Notable wins include Haileybury, 17-14. The team, who collect Canterbury training shirts, are currently fourth in the Standard 1st XV league.
