Redknapp happy to boost side with loans

Harry Redknapp admits he may have to rely on loans and free transfers to strengthen his Tottenham squad in January.

Redknapp is likely to be allowed to spend what he generates through player sales during the transfer window but chairman Daniel Levy claims there is enough talent in the squad for his manager not to need to make significant additions.

In recent weeks, Redknapp has been linked with players he managed at Portsmouth, including former Spurs striker Jermain Defoe, fellow forward Peter Crouch and midfielder Lassana Diarra, and is in a strong bargaining position after reviving Spurs' season.

Redknapp said: "If there is no money, there is no money. The chairman at Portsmouth used to ask me if I needed anything and I would say no.

"I don't want to spend his [Levy's] money. If the chairman says there is a certain amount to spend, then that is different.

"But if there is no money, then I am just as happy to find a couple of loans and free transfers if I have to bolster the squad."

Levy is content to let Redknapp take charge of recruitment after dispensing with the sporting director's role - held by Damien Comolli - when he appointed the 61-year-old.

Facts...sacking Ramos cost the club 1.7 million as it was due to the fact of spurs position at the time, hardly a massive amount, plus i think all the papers tend to throw around figures during the season as they as with other people have no actual idea what is available.it is known fact Spurs always keep their transfer dealing close to their chests..Im sure Harry knows where we need to strengthen the squad if needs be money will be made available

Er, what happened to the £50 million we got for Berbatov and Keane at the last minute?

Its such a shame for Harry. He has done a wonderful job so far, but will be hindered by a lack of funds as a result of Mr Levy's disasterous leadership. A fortune has been spent in sacking Jol, Comolli,Ramos & Poyet. As well as selling some of our best players, without adequate replacements. We are still short of a quality left-back, wide left player & at least one top striker. This lot could easily set us back a further £30-40 million.
