Pietersen vows his flops will fight back

12 Nov 2008

Kevin Pietersen is backing his humiliated England side to bounce back strongly when they face India in the first one-day international in Rajkot on Friday.

The England captain remained upbeat despite yesterday's defeat against Mumbai and said: "I'm not going to criticise or do anything.

"I'll back all the lads to know that when we travel to Rajkot they are going to have their heads on.

"This is just a quick little lesson and a quick little reminder that we need to get back into winning ways. There's no drama."

Left-armer Ryan Sidebottom is out of Friday's game because of his Achilles problem but paceman Stuart Broad is expected to have recovered from a sore right knee.

Pakistan paceman Mohammad Asif will appear before the Indian Premier League anti-doping tribunal on 29 November. Asif tested positive for nandrolone during the IPL this year and was banned by the Pakistan Cricket Board from all forms of cricket.
