Martin Peters tells Beckham to move aside
18.11.08
World Cup winner Martin Peters believes David Beckham's England career should be over.
Beckham's last four appearances have come off the bench and takes him to 107, one behind the record for an outfield player set by 1966 captain Bobby Moore.
The LA Galaxy star is not in Fabio Capello's squad this week and Peters said: "David Beckham has been great for the country, but it is time to look elsewhere."
And Peters feels the cap has been devalued with the amount of substitutions made.
"Bobby Moore was a great friend of mine - he played 108 games and played 90 minutes every game. There were no substitutes when I played. It was 1968 when they were brought in; even then Alf (Ramsey) didn't use that many."

Beckham is already way past his sell by date in football
terms and if you cannot play for 90 minutes no cap should ever be available .David Bentley is the star in waiting, but, for some reason he is wrongly rejected.Martin Peters, god bless him ,is right.

Brian I totally disagree, Beckham is over paid and thankfully over there playing for a pub team, or trying now to play in Italia he is finished and should just shrug and say bye bye.

Wrong Mr Peters, David still has a lot to offer and is still young enough to see out another World Cup, is there anyone better with a dead ball or a cross in English football who is English? i dont think so , so if he is the best , then he needs to be picked.
