Chelsea trio blitzed in Brazil

20 Nov 2008

Luis Felipe Scolari watched in disbelief last night as a Portugal team containing Chelsea's Deco, Jose Bosingwa and Paulo Ferreira was thrashed 6-2 by Brazil.

The Chelsea boss made the long flight to the capital Brasilia in anticipation of seeing his three players in winning action ahead of this weekend's home game against Newcastle.

Instead all three, along with Manchester United's Cristiano Ronaldo, performed poorly as Luis Fabiano scored a hat-trick to lift the pressure on Brazil manager Dunga.

The trio now face an 18-hour journey back to London and must be doubtful for the clash with Joe Kinnear's team.

Danny opened the scoring for the visitors by turning in Bruno Alves's cross after four minutes. But Fabiano levelled four minutes later, then put Brazil ahead in the 25th minute with a shot on the turn from Kaka's pass.

The second half produced four goals in a 10-minute spell. Maicon scored with an angled shot for Brazil in the 55th minute while Fabiano got his third minutes later.

Simao Sabrosa pulled one back for the visitors, only for Elano to rifle home Brazil's fifth from another chance created by Kaka.

Adriano headed Brazil's sixth in stoppage-time, as the hosts completed their first win over Portugal since 1989.
