Manchester United to go for broke in Villarreal

25.11.08

Sir Alex Ferguson insists he is banishing thoughts of the Manchester derby to the back of his mind until his after side are finished with Villarreal in the Champions League.

United travel to face the Spanish high-fliers tonight then Manchester City on Sunday but Ferguson has indicated he will field a strong side in the Group E encounter at El Madrigal in a bid to clinch top spot in the group.

He said: "The derby doesn't come into it simply because I have got five days. I want to win the group and winning [tonight] does that.

"It was different last time, when we played Celtic in Glasgow, because we had a lunchtime game against Arsenal so my thinking was completely different. Wednesday to Saturday lunchtime is different from Tuesday to Sunday lunchtime."

Cristiano Ronaldo has pleaded to play against Villarreal but Ferguson is reluctant to use him after he came off during the 0-0 draw against Aston Villa on Saturday with a leg injury.

United will be without Dimitar Berbatov (hamstring), Wes Brown (ankle) and Gary Neville (groin).
