Still down the pecking order: Michael Mancienne has been told where he stands by Chelsea manager Luiz Felipe Scolari

Michael Mancienne is brought down to earth by Scolari

Luiz Felipe Scolari has handed Michael Mancienne a major reality check after his shock England call-up by insisting he is no closer to getting a game for Chelsea.

Fabio Capello named Mancienne in the squad to face Germany last week even though he has yet to play a match for Chelsea.

The 20-year-old has impressed while on loan at Queens Park Rangers in the past two seasons and has helped Wolves climb to the top of the Championship this term.

His loan spell at Molineaux will end on 29 December but Chelsea manager Scolari wants the defender to extend it or sign another temporary deal elsewhere.

Even then, the Brazilian is refusing to guarantee he will get a chance in the future due to the four centre-halves already at the club in John Terry, Ricardo Carvalho, Alex and Branislav Ivanovic.

Scolari told Chelsea TV: "I don't say that he is not good enough for Chelsea but the fans must understand that I have four players who already play in this position. All these four players are the best in the world right now.

"For me, it's not because Fabio wants him or not or if another coach likes him or not. I need to know what I have in my team and in this moment I have four players in a better condition.

"People shouldn't forget that Capello missed many players at the back. When you don't have anyone to bring from the clubs, it's normal to get someone from the Under-21s instead.

"Michael needs to play. It's better for him to play outside the club and then come back to Chelsea. But he still has a good future with us."
