Ospreys lose to All Blacks in Smith fight
2 Dec 2008Wayne Smith has rejected an offer from Welsh club Ospreys in order to see out his two-year deal with the New Zealand Rugby Union.
Smith, who has been Graham Henry's assistant All Blacks coach since 2004, gave the Ospreys job plenty of thought because he wanted to spend more time with his family.
But after negotiating a reduction in workload and travel, the 51-year-old will remain alongside Henry until the end of 2009.
"I love the jersey, I love my country and I love the people I'm working with," said Smith.
Henry, however, might find it tougher to retain kicking coach Mick Byrne, who is considering an offer to join John Kirwan in Japan.
