Wilkinson may make Six Nations comeback

Evening Standard   5 Dec 2008

Jonny Wilkinson has hinted at a possible comeback during this season's Six Nations internationals.

The England fly-half has been hit by a string of serious injuries since the 2003 World Cup Final, the latest being a dislocated knee he suffered more than two months ago.

Wilkinson, 29, will shortly undergo surgery to assess his recovery.

But when asked if he could return to the England squad in the New Year, he said: "I'm not sure at the moment but I hope so. I'm always positive.

"I'm still waiting to get on my feet and properly move around.

"That should be around January time and after that I'd like to think I could get back to playing."

England have lost three of their four games since Martin Johnson took over as manager but Wilkinson said: "I believe he will be successful. I genuinely believe it."

Yes, Johnny Wilkinson needs a fair go. He needs to get back to the metronomic groove that slots the ball between the posts allowing the rest of the team to relax and play with flair. JW can be relied upon to keep the poins ticking over. Boring? - maybe, but it gets results and everyone is still in awe of it.
Go Johnny, get out there and practice - in 5 years it will all be over anyway and you'll be the kicking coach.

Yes Jonno is the man for the job. He can only work with what raw talent is available at the time. Currently there are a few developing talents. If Jonny Wilkinson joined his team I believe the changes would be quicker. The old farts should let Jonno Manage and steer clear for the next three years. Rebuilding a team takes time and lots of losses before the wins come through. Give Jonno space and as for the pundits, shut up!!! Go and crucify someone else.
