Hughes can't work out how to stop Delap

Aaron Hughes admits nothing can prepare Fulham for Rory Delap's long throw-ins when they face Stoke next Saturday, writes Dean Jones.

Fulham have found a new resilience that has meant no side has managed to score more than once against them in the last 10 outings.

Manchester City's Benjani was able to score with a header at Craven Cottage on Saturday, but Roy Hodgson's side levelled through man-of-the-match Jimmy Bullard to earn a point.

"There was no Robinho, and I guess it was better for us that he didn't play," admitted Northern Ireland defender Hughes "But City have Shaun Wright-Phillips, Darius Vassell and Benjani so it was still tough. Now we look to the game against Stoke.

"The delivery on Delap's throw-ins is so unique and it goes so far. It doesn't even need to go in off one of their players, it can go off one of ours through a deflection.

"It's a pretty awesome weapon to have and I don't think you can really prepare for it until the day."

Bullard's goal at Craven Cottage was his first of the season.

"He's been shooting from all over the place," added Hughes. "But now that he has one I hope he can go on and get a few more for us."

How about putting your tallest striker in front of him with minimum legal distance, to make it harder? A simple solution perhaps Arsenal should have thoughtb of?
