Froch pledges to fight for a date with Calzaghe

8 Dec 2008

Carl Froch has vowed never to change the furious fighting style which swept him to the WBC super-middleweight title.

Froch beat fellow unbeaten prospect Jean Pascal in his home town of Nottingham after the pair had exchanged huge blows from the first bell until his unanimous decision win was announced.

It was exactly the kind of victory the 31-year-old had in mind and he said: "I didn't box and move and jab very often like I should do. But I'm a fighter first and foremost. I could make my career a lot easier but that's not what I'm about. I like to get stuck in."

Froch is due to fight Jermain Taylor in a mandatory defence but, if the American turns the offer down, Froch will try to tempt Joe Calzaghe into one last fight.

"We'd love Calzaghe next more than anything," said his promoter Mick Hennessy.

Meanwhile, Frank Warren said Amir Khan has looked to Manny Pacquiao for guidance on how to rebuild a career.

The Fillipino crushed Oscar De La Hoya in one of the fights of the year in Las Vegas at the weekend, while Khan battered Oisin Fagan into submission over two brutal rounds at the London ExCel.

Pacquiao - a sparring partner for Khan at Freddie Roach's gym - had to bounce back from two defeats earlier in his career and Warren said: "Manny has been an inspiration for Amir."
