We'll handle Bayonne's aggression, says Jones

Chris Jones, Rugby Correspondent

Saracens director of rugby Eddie Jones believes his team's Battle of Bayonne will not be repeated when the clubs meet again in the European Challenge Cup on Sunday.

One player from each side was sin-binned for punching during Sarries' 16-6 pool victory on what Jones described as a "mud heap" last weekend in France.

The French pack contained players chosen to rough up their opposite numbers but given the Sarries forwards included 20st Cencus Johnston, All Black lock Chris Jack and England captain Steve Borthwick, it was a pretty pointless exercise.

Jones said: "It was a pretty ferocious game on a mud heap and I can't see them trying to do the same to us on our own pitch.

"I can't see us getting involved in any of that rubbish again. Bayonne picked a pack of forwards to rough us up but obviously didn't have a look at our team sheet because our front five can handle themselves."

Jones is also looking forward to taking on the French club at Vicarage Road and giving their opponents a traditional welcome.

"I don't think English supporters recognise just how good the pitches are in this country now that so many football grounds are shared by rugby clubs," said the Saracens boss.
