Walsh waits to receive green light to return

Ruby Walsh finds out later today if he will get the all-clear to make his comeback from injury at Cheltenham this weekend.

Walsh, who has been out of the saddle since having his spleen removed following a fall last month, will see Turf Club chief medical officer Dr Adrian McGoldrick in a bid to be passed fit for the two-day Boylesports meeting which begins on Friday.

"I will know today whether I will back in action on Friday or Saturday," said Walsh. "I'm feeling good and rode out for the first time since my operation yesterday morning."

Should Walsh get the okay to return, he will partner Boylesports Gold Cup second favourite Silverburn and Triumph Hurdle winner Celestial Halo in the Boylesports International Hurdle, among others, for champion trainer Paul Nicholls.

His return will take the spotlight off Sam Thomas, Nicholls's No2 jockey, who endured a torrid time in the Irishman's absence despite partnering Noland to victory for the stable in the Grade 1 John Durkan Chase at Punchestown yesterday.

Thomas, who was replaced by Tony McCoy on Tingle Creek winner Master Minded last weekend, thanked Nicholls and owner John Hales for giving him the ride on Noland.

He said: "I've been in the press for the wrong reasons lately and this win means a lot. I enjoyed every minute of it."
