Fitness race: Berbatov is a doubt for the weekend's battle with Tottenham

Berbatov's fitness race

Dimitar Berbatov and Michael Carrick face a race to be fit for Saturday's clash against former club Tottenham after missing Manchester United's 2-2 draw against Aalborg last night.

Neither player was risked for the Champions League clash because of injury and the pair were sorely missed as Wayne Rooney's strike rescued a point against the Danish minnows.

The result was still good enough to send United into the knock-out stages as group winners but their stuttering performance left Sir Alex Ferguson desperate to get Berbatov and Carrick fit for an emotional return to White Hart Lane this weekend.

The United manager is also facing an anxious wait to see if UEFA will review video evidence after Rooney was accused of stamping on Aalborg's Kasper Risgaard.

Ferguson said: "Berbatov is injured but we're hopeful. He got a kick in the Achilles on Saturday and we need to get rid of the swelling first and then see.

"Carrick has a thigh injury and we hope he will be all right.

"Tottenham is an important game but Rooney is suspended and Patrice Evra too. So we've got to utilise our pool and pick the right team on Saturday."

How can it be an emotional return, when these 2 so called players wanted to leave!
Please remember that Spurs reignited both players careers and made money out of them!
