Tom Daley fears tall story will shatter his 2012 dream

Teenage diving sensation Tom Daley today revealed his fear that a growth spurt may rule him out of the London Olympics.

At 14, Daley was the youngest British competitor at the Beijing Games where he qualified for the individual 10m platform event and the 10m synchronised dive with Blake Aldridge.

Although the reigning British and European senior champion failed to medal, Daley's exciting potential marked him out as a likely star of 2012. But he is now concerned that his body may change dramatically over the next three-and-a-half years.

Daley (above), who stood 5ft 2ins tall and weighed 7st 7lbs in China, said: "If I get too tall then that would count me out as a diver because you have to be average height.

"If you get too tall it makes your somersaults harder.

"My mum and dad aren't tall. I'm just hoping I don't grow like my uncles because they are over 6ft."

Daley was last night beaten to the BBC Young Sports Personality award by Paralympian Eleanor Simmonds.

Tom Daley is a legend already. If you saw his performance at the 13th FINA World Championships, you would realise straight away that he has a real chance for Gold in 2012. I think this is the first time I've ever hoped England does well at something... hahahaha
