Red mists? Wayne Rooney will not face disciplinary action for this incident against Aalborg

Rooney in the clear over his Euro stamp

Wayne Rooney will not face any disciplinary action over an apparent stamp on Aalborg's Kasper Risgard last week.

UEFA decided not to charge the Manchester United striker after studying a video of the incident in the 2-2 Champions League draw last Wednesday.

Midfielder Risgard claimed Rooney should have been sent off after “jumping” on his chest.

Rooney could have faced a suspension for part of the knockout stages had UEFA decided to take action but a spokesman for the governing body said: “We will not open any disciplinary proceedings against Rooney.”

England coach Fabio Capello today insisted he has no concerns over Rooney's suspect temperament.

The coach, who is approaching a year in charge of England, said: “His aggression is not a problem for me. He is strong, but not unfair and this is the Rooney I know. He is a very important player for us and is always very, very strong.”

Capello also said he would check on the progress of Michael Owen, who has scored four goals in five games, in the New Year.

He added: “Owen's playing very well but I'll have to decide if he's ready.”

If you look at it closely it was nowhere near a stamp.
