The crunch: Dan Carter plunges head first after a challenge by Harry Ellis

Ellis faces ban after being cited for tackle on Carter

16 Dec 2008

England scrum-half Harry Ellis has been cited for an alleged dangerous tackle on Perpignan's Dan Carter during Leicester's Heineken Cup defeat in France on Sunday.

The New Zealand fly-half was sent crashing to the ground head first following a challenge by Ellis, who had only been on the pitch for 10 minutes as a substitute.

Carter, who was making his debut for Perpignan, said after the game: “I am very relieved to be injury-free. I was very thankful that I wasn't hurt. It was pretty scary up there and I had no control over how I was going to land.”

Ellis was not punished for the tackle during the 26-20 defeat for his side but European Rugby Cup, who organise the tournament, said a disciplinary committee would be convened as soon as possible.
If found guilty, then the Leicester player will be banned for at least two weeks.
