Video: Golf lesson 1 - Swing Fundamentals

19 Dec 2008

The Evening Standard recently visited the Knightsbridge Golf School to find out why it is known (amongst golfers) as one of London's best kept secrets.

For the last fifty years the school, hidden away in the basement of a Georgian house just behind Harvey Nichols, has taught players of all abilities (not to mention a long list of celebrities) how to perfect their swing.

Clients of the school past and present include Richard Branson, Sean Connery, Hugh Grant, Gianfranco Zola, Christopher Lee, Ant and Dec and Vernon Kay.

The owners of the school, Steve Gould and David Wilkinson, together with new golf instruction website www.saveamillionshots.com, have agreed to share some of their top swing tips with readers of the Evening Standard.

Each week a new video tip from the school can be found here. The first one Swing Fundamentals' is below;

Poj, Chelmsford- that is shot on a real course. The basement is actually stuffy dark and drabby- I took lessons there. And the cost is £45- £50 per 30 minute lesson![depending on if you pay for 10 lessons upfront.

This could be really useful for developing my game into spring. Hopefully they're will be tips on bunkers coming because I could really do with improving there.
I'll be here to check again next week.

I've been going to the Knightsbridge School for years now and the tuition they give is second to none. I can credit them totally with lowering my handicap from around the 18, 19 mark to single figures.

And these videos are pretty useful for beginners or those who can't get down to the school themselves.

Wow, technology is so good now, that even though you know you are in a basement in London, you feel like you are learning to play on a real course on a sunny Summer afternoon.
