Calling it a day: Slaven Bilic says he will leave his job as Croatia coach at the end of the 2010 World Cup qualifying campaign

Slaven Bilic to quit Croatia

2 Jan 2009

Croatia coach Slaven Bilic has announced he will leave his post in November at the end of the 2010 World Cup qualifying campaign.

The 40-year-old led his team to last summer's European Championships - where they reached the quarter-finals - at the expense of England.

Bilic has been linked with several coaching jobs in the Premier League, including one of his former clubs West Ham.

He now looks set to be available later this year after telling Croatian daily Sportske Novosti about his plans to stand down.

"I will stay at the helm until the end of this qualifying campaign but not a second more. Four years in this post is enough", Bilic said.

He took over the Croatia reins after the 2006 World Cup.

His team lie second in World Cup Qualifying Group 6, five points behind leaders England after four matches.
