Siege mentality: James Haskell is playing down Wasps’ woes

Haskell: Wasps woe has made us all stronger

James Haskell says London Wasps are not being undermined by speculation over contract talks and injuries to key players.

Bath are reported to be keen on the loose-forward, who is one of a number of players yet to agree new deals along with Danny Cipriani, Tom Palmer and Riki Flutey.

Palmer is also on Wasps' lengthy injury list with fellow England internationals Tom Rees, Simon Shaw and Joe Worsley, all of whom will miss Saturday's Bath clash.

The defending Guinness Premiership champions are eighth in the table but Haskell (above) said: “All the things happening at the club at the moment — injuries and contract talks — have actually made things easier.

“The off-the-field stuff can put as much or as little pressure on you as you like and all we have done is become really tight and adopted a siege mentality.

“We are not letting anything affect us. All that is important is the next game, against Bath. We don't have a massive squad and when guys get injured someone else has to step in and they are treated as if they have been around all the time.”
Haskell says Sunday's 24-18 win over Harlequins proves Wasps cannot be written off.

“If we get the elements right in terms of intensity and defence — as we did against Quins in the first half — then we can create a little bit of chaos and everything else takes care of itself,” he added.
