Warnock's Cup tonic

14 Jan 2009

Neil Warnock has told his Crystal Palace players to learn from Cardiff's experience last season and to set their sights on Wembley as they prepare for their FA Cup third-round replay with Leicester tonight.

Championship side Palace are just outside the play-off zone, while Leicester are flying high in League One.

The first match between the two ended 0-0 and both teams will now face off at Selhurst Park for a tie at Watford in the fourth round.

While some might suggest a run in the Cup could prove a distraction for any team chasing promotion, Warnock (above) is fully focused on taking his side through to the next round and he'd love to lead his side out at Wembley in the FA Cup Final in May. He said: "It would be nice to get to the final. It's all about grinding out another result and getting to the next round.

"There'll be lots of clubs knocked out of this competition early doors, so anything can happen. Just look at Portsmouth and Cardiff last season."

Injuries to Paddy McCarthy (shoulder), Ben Watson (calf) and James Scowcroft (hamstring) have hit Warnock's preparations but he insists his side are in good spirits.

He added: "I know whoever turns up will give a good account of themselves."
