Hitman sets sights on new foe as he tires of Pacquiao

Ricky Hatton's proposed fight with Manny Pacquiao on 2 May is off, his American promoters said today.

Both parties had agreed before Christmas to share the purse but it emerged earlier this month that the Filipino was demanding 60-40 in his favour for the contest, which was set to take place in Las Vegas.

Golden Boy Promotions, the management company that deals with Hatton (below), have confirmed the fight has been scrapped, with chief executive Richard Schaefer saying they are now looking at alternative opponents.

Schaefer said: "It's off and we are now pursuing our other options. That's it.

"The Hattons called me and asked again if we had a signed deal from Pacquiao and when I said we didn't, they said they won't sit around any more. They would like me to explore three fights they are interested in."

Pacquiao would have earned around £8million from the fight. Hatton's lawyer Gareth Williams said: "Manny is turning down the biggest pay-day of his career for reasons known only to himself."

I'm happy that this is over! Greed had taken over the 2 best boxers in the world.
