Best yet from Armstrong as he steers clear of pile-up
22 Jan 2009Lance Armstrong avoided the carnage that forced nine riders to quit the race as he recorded his best result at the Tour Down Under today.
The seven-times Tour de France winner finished the third stage 32nd to move to 39th place overall, 29 seconds behind Australian race leader Allan Davis with three stages race remaining.
Davis finished second behind Graeme Brown in the 85mile-stage from Unley to Victor Harbour, despite having to get back on his bike after being involved in a pile-up with a police motorcycle.
"We've lost more riders in this one stage than we've lost in the 10-year history of the race," said race director Mike Turtur.
