IT isn't every day a League One footballer is honoured in the Houses of Parliament but this has been no ordinary season for Neil Harris.

The Millwall striker is still adjusting to his new title as the club's all-time record scorer, having overtaken Teddy Sheringham by netting his 112th goal in last week's FA Cup replay with Crewe.

It was enough for Harris's name to be raised in the Commons by local Liberal Democrat MP Simon Hughes, who felt the 31-year-old's dedication to the Den and striking achievements were worthy of recognition. Now Harris wants to spearhead Millwall's bid to upset Premier League highfliers Hull in the FA Cup fourth round tomorrow.

"The last week's been a bit of a whirlwind but it's been fantastic," he said. "It was a lovely gesture from Simon.

"He does a lot of good publicity for the club. I'm not a political person particularly but I'm still aware that it's a great achievement to be mentioned in the House of Commons."
