Headache: Arsene Wenger's side will have to face Cardiff in a replay

Wenger rues replay

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger admitted his side's 0-0 draw at Cardiff has left him with an FA Cup headache.

Wenger had hoped his much-changed side would overcome the Bluebirds, who were last season's beaten finalists, at the first time of asking.

But although the fit-again William Gallas was able to watch all 90 minutes of the fourth-round clash from the bench at Ninian Park, Wenger felt the need to send on substitutes Emmanuel Adebayor and Abou Diaby in the second half as Cardiff repeatedly threatened to pull off an upset.

The two sides will meet again at the Emirates Stadium on Tuesday, February 3, with the winners at home to either West Brom or Burnley.

But with the Gunners competing in the Champions League and trying to qualify for Europe next season, Wenger did not need the extra fixture.

He said: "We could do without it, 100%, but let's not complain because we play football. It's one more game to play and if that's the price we have to pay to stay in the hat, we're happy to do it.

"We are very short at the moment and cannot rotate very much. I could rest a few players today but not as many as I had wanted. I had planned to take Robin van Persie off, but it didn't work that way."

Cardiff never let Arsenal settle and came close on five occasions in the first 20 minutes. Dave Jones' side also almost won it near the end when Ross McCormack's long-range free-kick beat goalkeeper Lukasz Fabianski but hit the crossbar rather than the back of the net.

Local rivals Swansea grabbed Saturday's headlines by knocking holders Portsmouth out of the cup with a 2-0 win at Fratton Park but Jones was adamant Roberto Martinez's side still have some way to go before claiming Welsh bragging rights.

He said: "Swansea are a good side and Roberto has done a fantastic job but I read before the game that if we could get a result we would be putting Welsh football on the map. I thought we did that last season by getting to Wembley, didn't we?"

Jones was also adamant his players deserved to be in the fifth-round draw.

He said: "Man for man, every single person did his job and beyond it. To keep a clean sheet against a side like Arsenal is fantastic for them. It'll give them the confidence to kick on in the back end of the season.

"We don't want them to think that they've done it, and I don't think they will. The work ethic is phenomenal at this football club and we didn't tire, we didn't falter."

I've been watching Arsenal since 1965 and I have never known an Arsenal manager do so much damage to his club in twelve months.
He has sold Diarra, Hleb, Silva and let Flamini go. Then He has then replaced them with Bischoff and Ramsey. To compound this he turns down and offer for Eboue and intends to offer him a new contract.
I cannot believe his arrogance. He will be sitting in the Emirates on his own this time next year if he is allowed to continue like this.
