Fine form: Arsene Wenger has praised Robin van Persie

Van Persie fits the bill for Arsenal

28 Jan 2009

Arsene Wenger today claimed Robin van Persie's fitness holds the key to Arsenal's chances of lifting a trophy this season, writes James Olley.

The Dutch striker appears to have put the last two injury-plagued years behind him and is set to make his 27th appearance for the club this season against Everton at Goodison Park tonight.

"Van Persie's fitness is the good news of the season," said the Arsenal manager. "He has had a sustained run and you can see when he has that he scores goals. He makes goals as well and for me that is as important as scoring."

Arsenal can welcome William Gallas (hamstring) back into the starting line-up, while Gael Clichy is available again after serving a suspension.

RVP is having a great season and i just want to see him and Eduardo play with each other with Nasri & Arshavin on the flanks! We are slowly getting the squad back together, Toure, Djourou, Gallas at the back. Denilson, Diaby, Ramsey & Song in the middle. Rosicky & Walcott possibly back in March and Cesc in April!

A superb player, great to see him consistently & back on form, now its time for Adebayor to wake up!

Still, if he does happen to get injured I am sure Hollywood would welcome him with open arms, his diving, and general cheating are a joy to watch, he even makes noises to go with his play-acting, up there with the Jude Laws.
