Watford new boy Williamson lifts Rodgers

Brendan Rodgers praised new signing Mike Williamson after he helped Watford ease their relegation fears with an emphatic win over Burnley

The defender was snapped up from League Two leaders Wycombe in the transfer window and made an immediate impact on his debut, helping the home side secure a 3-0 win.

Williamson kept Burnley at bay while Tamas Priskin scored twice to add to Jobi McAnuff's opener to give Watford boss Rodgers a morale-boosting success.

He said: "Mike's the type of defender I like and we have taken a chance on him. He only cost £100,000 but knows his position well. He was excellent and got a round of applause in the dressing room after the game from the players."

New boy is great, get the old man McAnuff out of the team, he is woeful.
