Hearn in talks with Becks' pal to sell Orient

30 Jan 2009

Leyton Orient owner and chairman Barry Hearn has confirmed he is in talks over the sale of the League One club.

Hearn, who bought Orient in 1995, is talking to a number of interested parties, including David Beckham's confidant Terry Byrne.

"I'm in discussions with Terry Byrne over the possibility of selling Orient," Hearn told the Sun. "I've always said I'm a fan of the club, but it doesn't mean I have to be the owner so long as I can guarantee its long-term survival.

"At this stage we're only in discussions but it only takes a minute to agree something if it's in the best interests of the club."

Byrne is Beckham's most trusted friend and advisor and it is inevitable the former England captain, currently on loan at AC Milan, will be linked with the deal.

Beckham is also a local lad who was born in Leytonstone.

Yeah, but like Walthamstow Dog Track, whilst it may "break Beckham's heart" to hear of it's demise, he couldn't possibly put his hand in his pocket to help save it, could he?

Cracking football player. Nice perfumes. Tight as you like though.

If this is some of Becks doing rather than a solo effort by Terry Byrne, then bring it on. The name alone will be enough to turn the gates in the right direction, and perhaps then we can attract a decent manager and influence players to join. Perhaps at long last the Cinderella club will be going to the Ball!
