Lehmann is fined for rant at team-mates

30.01.09

Former Arsenal goalkeeper Jens Lehmann is in trouble again for moaning, having been fined for criticising his Stuttgart teammates.

The German spent five years at Arsenal but was not first choice during his final season, which led to a series of outbursts against manager Arsene Wenger.

Lehmann, 39, joined Stuttgart in the summer but has angered coach Markus Babbel after laying into the team following Tuesday's 5-1 loss to Bayern Munich. The keeper has since apologised for accusing his team-mates of being lazy and of not working enough during the mid-season break.

But that has not saved him from an undisclosed fine. Coach Babbel, the former Liverpool defender, said: "Criticism in principle should not be made publicly."
