Late: The Gunners announced Andrey Arshavin's move almost 24 hours after the transfer deadline passed

Aston Villa won't complain to League over Arshavin row

Aston Villa have decided not to complain about the lateness of Andrey Arshavin's move to Arsenal at a Premier League meeting today.

The Gunners announced the £15million deal almost 24 hours after the transfer window closed, much to the anger of their rivals in pursuit of a Champions League place.

Despite the Premier League reportedly insisting all documents were registered before the 5pm deadline, it is understood several forms from Zenit St Petersburg sent via Arsenal reached officials some time afterwards.

But Villa chief executive Paul Faulkner will not be raising the transfer of Arshavin at the quarterly meeting between the top-flight clubs and the Premier League.

Manager Martin O'Neill said: "Some points are being raised - although not necessarily by us as Aston Villa."

Arsenal chief executive Ivan Gazidis has played down the furore, insisting the transfer has been over-dramatised.

"We probably bored everybody and I think everyone got a bit tired of the ongoing story," he said. "It was never on until it finally got done, but it was not on and off through the day either."

Meanwhile, Arsenal are facing a potential fixture crisis that could throw their attempts to end the club's trophy drought into chaos.

The cancellation of Tuesday's FA Cup fourth-round replay with Cardiff because of the snow means Arsene Wenger's side will fall a round behind the rest left in the competition, should they beat last season's finalists.

A potential fifth-round tie against Burnley is scheduled for 7/8 March, which is quarter-finals weekend.

After Sunday's derby at Tottenham, Arsenal already face eight games in 27 days as the Champions League resumes with a two-legged clash against Roma.

Villa are just playing sour grapes.

Considering it was a totally legit transfer, it will be interesting to see nothing happen.

I believe that Aston Villa will qualify for the Champions league at the expense of Chelsea or Liverpool. Arsenal, with Arshavin, will definetely finish second or third.
If Fabregas, Rosciky, Walcott and Edouard were fit Arsenal, even being 10 points behind Man United right now, could finish Top at the end.
