SVEN-GORAN ERIKSSON is top of Portsmouth's wanted list .

Avram Grant and Alan Curbishley were thought to be the leading contenders to take over at Fratton Park following the sacking of Tony Adams yesterday.

But former England boss Eriksson, who could also be considered for the Chelsea job, is now the front-runner ahead of Grant and Curbishley, as well as Croatia coach Slaven Bilic and former Blackburn and Newcastle manager Graeme Souness.

Eriksson, who has been made aware of Pompey's interest, is currently in charge of Mexico, but his stock is falling dramatically, and he could even lose his job if his side are beaten by the United States in tomorrow's World Cup qualifier.

Super-agent Pini Zahavi has taken control of Pompey's search for a new boss, and the Israeli's close relationship with Eriksson means the post is the Swede's to turn down.
