New role: Peter Moores has taken over as coach of Lancashire

Moores has no regrets over axing

12 Feb 2009

Peter Moores insisted today he had no regrets about his reign as England coach.

Moores was sacked by the England and Wales Cricket Board last month after a bust-up with then captain Kevin Pietersen.

But he has wasted little time in returning to the game and is looking forward to a new challenge in charge of Lancashire.

Moores, 46, said: "I would be wrong to say I was not disappointed about losing the job because I am a passionate Englishman. To lose a job like that was hard work.

"I have no regrets but I look forward now to what is a great challenge for Lancashire - one of the biggest clubs in the country - and that is my focus totally."

England's first Test since Moores's dismissal ended in an innings defeat against the West Indies last weekend.

Off-field distractions such as the Moores-Pietersen affair, the Indian Premier League and the Mumbai terrorist attacks have overshadowed England's cricket in recent months and their former coach admits things need to settle down.

He said: "Over the last 18-20 months cricket has changed a tremendous amount. The key for every country is they have got to settle down very quickly and sort themselves out in that structure.

"The world of cricket has changed and will keep changing for the next few months."

Moores succeeded Duncan Fletcher as England coach after impressing in charge of the ECB's Academy.

Moving back into such a role within the organisation was not something Moores considered.

He said: "I certainly didn't want to go into a position that might have been made. I wanted to take a step back, look at where I was at and see what was available."
