Wanted man: Riki Flutely in action at Cardiff against Wales

Flutey denies he's agreed Brive deal

England centre Riki Flutey today insisted he had not signed for Brive and that his agent was still talking to London Wasps.

Flutey plus England and Wasps colleagues James Haskell and Tom Palmer have been offered the chance by French clubs to triple their wages to £300,000 a year.

Brive are also interested in Palmer while Haskell is being chased by Stade Francais and Clermont Auvergne, who previously enticed former Wasps fly-half Alex King and Wales No10 Stephen Jones.

Wasps have convinced Danny Cipriani to sign a one-year deal but look set to fail in their attempt to keep their other internationals due to the restrictions of the wage cap in English rugby.

The French game does not have that kind of problem as lucrative sponsorship deals allow their clubs to buy the best talent in the world. This was highlighted by Dan Carter's short-term move to Perpignan, before serious injury forced him to return to New Zealand.

Flutey said: "My agent is still talking to various people and nothing has been settled. My focus is on England at the moment."

Meanwhile, David Paice's dismissal for fighting after 22 minutes proved costly for London Irish as they went down 14-9 at home to Harlequins.

Glen Jackson scored all of Saracens' points as they lost 20-15 at Northampton.

The English clubs are about to learn that a salary cap system only works if imposed across a whole sport.

When there is another league to play in only an hour away that does not have a cap, you are going to lose a lot of talent.
