Now emotional star wants to end trophy drought

Eduardo has targeted FA Cup and Champions League glory after a stunning return to action against Cardiff.

The 25-year-old scored twice in his first match for the Gunners since smashing his ankle a year ago and left to an emotional ovation after 67 minutes.

Arsene Wenger's side face Carling Cup conquerors Burnley in round five and, with a European tie against Roma starting next week, the striker believes he can inspire the club to end their four-year trophy drought. He said: "I am here to help Arsenal to be on top of the Premier League, or in the first three. Now we are in the FA Cup, I want to get to the final and in the Champions League we want to go far.

"Last year, I was strong in my head. I was very positive, thinking I will be back."

Eduardo was hugely emotional after heading home Kieran Gibbs' cross and celebrated his second-half penalty by embracing fitness coach Tony Colbert.

"It was the best day of my life because it proved I can play again," he said. "It was a special moment to score and very emotional. I had tears in my eyes.

"The second one, I went to Tony Colbert. We worked hard and he was like my second father. We spent a lot of time together every day and I think this goal was special for him."

Police later arrested six fans for public order offences and criminal damage including one pub window being smashed. However, a Scotland Yard spokesman said the trouble was "nothing out of the ordinary".
