Didier Drogba
Target man: striker Didier Drogba remains a target for former club Marseille

I still want to sign Drogba, admits Marseille chief

Marseille president Pape Diouf insists he will do everything he can to bring Didier Drogba back from Chelsea.

There has been speculation over Drogba's future since Jose Mourinho, the man who signed him for Chelsea for £24million in 2004, was sacked 18 months ago.

The 30-year-old striker spoke recently about the possibility of "finishing his adventure" at Marseille, the club where he won the French player of the year award.

Diouf has not given up hope of making Drogba's dream a reality and said: "We must talk to our supporters in adult language. They know we do what we say, and vice-versa. To say to them, 'We are going to win the Champions League' or 'Drogba is going to return', would be showing them a lack of respect.

"On the other hand, to say to them, 'Like you, I really want Drogba to come back and if there is a possibility of doing it, I will do it', that I can guarantee. Each time I see Didier, I say to him, 'Get your bags together and come back here!"'

Marseille last month dismissed talk of a move for Drogba, labelling him "inaccessible". Diouf knows Marseille cannot match Drogba's wages but believes there could be ways around it.

"Even if the possibility is thin, it still exists," Diouf added. "When you look at the economic reality, it isn't reasonable for a French club.

"However, you can't exclude thinking of other scenarios, like the boy accepting a pay cut."

Marseille could pay him what he's worth.......about 5% of what he's getting at Chelsea.
