Harten guides England to a victory at O2

23 Feb 2009

England stormed to a 67-54 victory against Jamaica at the O2 Arena in the First Test of netball's Cooperative International Series.

Sue Hawkins, from Australia, in her first year as England coach, was pleased with the dynamic firsthalf display and the way goal shooter Joanne Harten inspired the team, ranked No 3 in the world.

With a 38-19 lead at half-time it looked all over but Jamaica at last found their rhythm and started to claw back the deficit.

The 6ft 5ins Jamaican goal shooter Romelda Aiken found her form too late to change the result but will have given her team hope of a different outcome in tomorrow's Second Test in Coventry.

This visit to the O2 for this match was the culmination of a great Netball training Camp for our Albertan players. With an 8000+ crowd is really showed our girls how much Netball is appreciated as a spectator sport in another Commonwelath Country. In Canada we struggle for any recognition as a real sport.

England played an outstanding game and we were all interetsed to see how Geva etc. would cope with the giant GS. They did awesome!

Well done to England Netball for putting on a fantastic show.
