Shock winner roars: I will be the next Tiger

23 Feb 2009

Record-breaking amateur Danny Lee won the Johnnie Walker Classic in Perth and then boldly claimed he wanted to emulate Tiger Woods.

The New Zealander's one-stroke victory at The Vines Resort and Country Club saw him become the youngest winner of a European Tour event at 18 years and 213 days, eclipsing Dale Hayes's mark set at the 1971 Spanish Open.

Lee birdied the 18th to finish on 17 under, one shot up on England's Ross McGowan, Japan's Hiroyuki Fujita and Chile's Felipe Aguilar.

Asked what he wanted to become known as, Lee said: "The next Tiger Woods maybe. I'll try to break his records on the PGA Tour."

Nice that the invitation extended to an Amateur on the European tour is rewarded with the promise that he will play on the PGA tour....
