Injury rules Hoy out of world championships

04.03.09

Four-time Olympic gold medalist Sir Chris Hoy has withdrawn from cycling's world championships this month because of a hip injury he suffered in a crash.

Hoy came off his bike at more than 40mph in the final of the keirin at the Copenhagen leg of the World Cup two weeks ago.

Although Hoy has been having treatment and modified his training, he has now been advised to rest meaning he will be unable to defend his two world titles in the keirin and the sprint.

The Scot said: "I'm hugely disappointed that I'm not going to be riding in the worlds. This is the first time I've had to miss a major championship event due to injury."
