Saving the day: Heurelho Gomes has been in fine form for Tottenham

Harry tells his players to forget Europe and concentrate on survival

Harry Redknapp has warned Tottenham they remain in serious danger of relegation and believes 12 sides are still locked in a battle against the drop.

Winger Aaron Lennon revealed the prospect of European football next season had been discussed in the dressing room after Wednesday's 4-0 win over Middlesbrough, which took Redknapp's team four points clear of the bottom three.

If Spurs win at Sunderland tomorrow, they will be within five points off seventh spot, which will be good enough for a place in the new Europa League if a top-six club win the FA Cup. But Redknapp has tried to stop his squad getting over-confident by reminding them they could be playing Championship football next term.

He said: “It is amazing how tight the League is. Even Wigan, who have 35 points, are not out of it. There are teams scrapping and picking up points near the bottom and anyone from Wigan downwards can go into freefall.

“Middlesbrough or Blackburn can put a run of wins together and Stoke are still winning matches. We have to pick up points as quickly as we can to try to get out of it.

“As for qualifying for Europe, we simply have to focus on getting out of relegation danger. We had two points from eight games when I arrived, so we have to stay in the top flight. Anything else will be a bonus.”

Redknapp hinted he would stick with Heurelho Gomes in goal after preferring the Brazilian to Carlo Cudicini for the victory over Boro.

Gomes also kept a clean sheet in the Carling Cup Final penalty shoot-out defeat against Manchester United, when Cudicini was cup-tied.

Redknapp said: “Gomes is in the team at the moment. I don't have a number one goalkeeper. When I signed Carlo from Chelsea in January, it was difficult to leave Gomes out and it was hard to leave out Carlo for the game against Boro. I will pick whoever is in form and whoever is right on a particular occasion.”

Ledley King is expected to be cleared to play after missing the victory over Boro due to his knee problems, while Darren Bent could start in attack ahead of Roman Pavlyuchenko.

Sunderland fans, though, hoping to boo Pascal Chimbonda on his return to the Stadium of Light are likely to be disappointed. After signing Chimbonda in January, Redknapp had claimed the Frenchman would solve Spurs' defensive problems — yet he is still waiting for his first start.

However, another transfer window signing, Robbie Keane, has quickly become an integral part of Redknapp's team following his return from Liverpool.

After a quiet first two matches against Arsenal and Hull, new skipper Keane was superb against Boro, scoring the first goal and playing a key role in the next three.

The striker has echoed his manager's view that Spurs must focus on getting themselves out of trouble. He said: “We've got to push ourselves up that table. We're in a position at the moment where we don't want to be — but the reality is that we are there.”

Meanwhile, Spurs are ready to make a summer bid for teenage sensation Bojan Krkic after Barcelona hinted they were ready to sell the 18-year-old Spanish striker, who scored 10 goals for them last season.

Too true - that's how he has to stop them from becoming complacent like they have been in recent years.

Watching the game on Wednesday it's easy to see why zokora played instead of pascal, zokora's pace stopped downing from taking advantage. Zokora was outstanding on Wednesday.

Yeah, like what Harry has done, but i did wonder why he put Zokora right back, when Chimbonda was on the bench.
Weird Zokora is a midfield player! Not sure why he does certain things...We have a big squad and can have a strong bench, there are no players cup tied...Lets see some competition....
