Yang holds his nerve to claim maiden Tour victory

9 Mar 2009

Ye Yang secured his first win on the PGA Tour today after holding on for victory at the Honda Classic.

The South Korean, who held a one-shot lead going into the final day at Palm Beach Gardens, Florida, hit a 68 to win by one shot from John Rollins.

The American's 67 was good enough for second, with Ben Crane third and Jeff Klauk fourth.

Yang claimed close to $1million as he became only the second South Korean after KJ Choi to win on the PGA Tour.

He said: "KJ was the one who actually advised me to try to make it on the PGA Tour. Having won, I can't find words to describe it."

Yang picked up three shots on the front nine and stretched his lead with another birdie at the 12th but by the time he headed up the par-five 18th, the 37-year-old's advantage had been reduced to only one shot. However, he held his nerve to two putt the final green from 50ft and seal the win at nine-under-par.

The win earned Yang a place at next week's World Golf Championships-CA Championship at Doral and an invitation to the Masters.
