Individuals won't pay the penalty for 'yellow fever'

10 Mar 2009

England are putting their faith in top referee Wayne Barnes to cure their "yellow fever" but claim there is no point in dropping players for poor discipline ahead of Sunday's clash with France at Twickenham.

Barnes will run the rule over the England squad in training today to build on the work he did in Leeds last week, when the players were shown a video nasty of their mistakes so far in the Six Nations.

"We all know it had got to the point where we had to look at the problem slightly differently," said forwards coach John Wells, who accepts that it is the whole team which is at fault.

He added: "You can't just point individuals out because they have all contributed. We are not just going to start jumping around and dropping people willy nilly."

Despite this sentiment, No9 Danny Care, of Harlequins, (above) faces an anxious wait to see if he will be ignored after picking up a yellow card for barging into Irish prop Marcus Horan at a ruck two weeks ago.

Dave Strettle, a Quins team-mate of Care, is taking part in training today as cover for London Wasps wing Paul Sackey, who has an ankle injury but is expected to be fit for selection.
