Kenny Jackett declared Millwall's promotion charge back on track after Gary Alexander's strike ended a seven-week wait for a home win.

Alexander struck in the 35th minute to secure victory against Northampton ahead of the visit of runaway League One leaders Leicester.

Boss Jackett said: "It's a great position for us to be in. I'm really pleased with Gary. All strikers need goals to give confidence and he has put some good work in."

Leyton Orient's revival under Geraint Williams continued with a 3-1 win at Carlisle. Charlie Daniels, Scott McGleish and Simon Church secured the club's first three-goal haul this term.

Brentford beat Barnet to move seven points clear at the head of League Two. Marcus Dean hit the winner and boss Andy Scott said: "From July, I knew how many points it would take to get promoted. I'm not saying how many it is, but I know."

Dagenham ended a run of six games without a win thanks to Jamie Guy's first goal for the club at Port Vale.
