Paul Scholes
No fears: Paul Scholes insists Manchester United will go through to the quarter-finals if they play like they did in the first leg against Inter Milan

We'll see off Inter, says upbeat Scholes

Paul Scholes believes a repeat of Manchester United's performance against Inter Milan two weeks ago will be good enough to knock Jose Mourinho's side out of the Champions League.

United drew 0-0 at the San Siro in the first leg of their last-16 tie but were the better team for most of the game.

One goal for Inter at Old Trafford would mean United needing to score two to reach the quarter-finals but Scholes says this is well within the grasp of the champions.

The midfielder said: "I accept that 0-0 can be a dangerous scoreline going into the home leg. But if the first game is anything to go by, we should have a great chance. We created enough chances to win by two or three goals. We didn't allow Inter to play and the only thing that was missing was the goal.

"If they score tonight, we will have to get two goals but we are more than capable of doing that with the players we have here."

Former Chelsea boss Mourinho was in charge of FC Porto when they knocked out United on away goals with a late equaliser at this stage of the competition in 2004.

Porto went on to win the Champions League that season and Mourinho claims that result at Old Trafford was the most significant of his life as a manager.

Mourinho said: "That was the goal that opened doors in England and my career was never the same again. To come here and beat Manchester United was fantastic."

Let's be clear. Man U should have and could have but did not score in Milan. So they do not have away goal advantage. Even a 1-1 draw would have been better. Now they have everything to do. Best of luck.
