Naked ambition: Henrik Stenson

Padraig's back but Stenson's got some front

13 Mar 2009

Padraig Harrington's decision to forego a holiday break at Cheltenham and attempt to play his way back to form has paid off in the CA Championship at Doral in Florida.

The Open and US PGA champion will begin today's second round just one stroke behind leaders Retief Goosen, Prayad Marksaeng, Phil Mickelson and Jeev Milka Singh following an opening six-under 66.

The Dubliner twice missed the cut in his first four events of the year and went out of the World Championship Match Play in the first round.

Tiger Woods, contesting his first strokeplay event since major knee surgery last June, had a two-bogie, three-birdie round of one-under-par 71. For once, however, the world No1 was not the focus of attention.

Instead, it was Sweden's Henrik Stenson who had the cameras clicking when he stripped down to his underwear to play out of mud near a water hazard on the third hole.

"I was only wearing two things when I hit the shot, my jocks and my golf glove," he said. "Shirt, trousers, socks, shoes, hat, the lot was off. Playing in Florida, I didn't have any rain gear in the bag so that option went out of the window."
