Hard graft has paid dividends for Peter Stringer

13.03.09

Peter Stringer may be one of the longest serving Ireland players, but he still went back to basics to earn his recall for tomorrow's RBS Six Nations clash with Scotland at Murrayfield - where he made his debut 97 caps ago.

Stringer was dropped during the 2007 Rugby World Cup and had been overtaken in the scrum-half stakes by Eoin Reddan, Isaac Boss and Tomas O'Leary.

He said: "I suppose it's fair to say my whole world was rocked when I was dropped - the fear of not being involved is devastating.

"I approached all coaches that I was involved with and asked for their analysis. I asked them to look at me as if they were analysing me as a player on an opposition team, to really get down to the basics."
