Alan Hutton was today called up by Scotland for their forthcoming World Cup qualifiers despite not playing for Tottenham in four months.

The full-back suffered a stress fracture of the foot at the start of the season and although he returned in October the injury flared up again while playing for his country the following month, forcing him to have an operation.

Scotland boss George Burley has called up Hutton for the games with Holland a week on Saturday and Iceland four days later but said he will only join the squad if he comes through a Spurs reserve match at West Brom on Monday night.

"He has been training for the last week and I spoke to Harry Redknapp and Alan," said Burley. "The reserve game is ideal for Alan to play in and assess his fitness. We will keep our fingers crossed the game goes well."

Goalkeeper Craig Gordon is also included despite being out of favour at Sunderland.
