Strauss in fitness race for first one-day clash

England are hopeful captain Andrew Strauss will recover from a slight hamstring strain to lead the side in Friday's opening match of the one-day international series against West Indies.

The Middlesex left-hander suffered the problem during Sunday's emphatic six-wicket Twenty20 International defeat in Trinidad and was prevented from taking a full part in England's fitness training this morning.

But after an ultra-sound scan this morning, which revealed no significant damage, the tourists remain hopeful he will recover in time to lead the side out for the start of the five-match series at the Providence Stadium in Guyana.
