Premier chief joins bid team for World Cup

Premier League chairman Sir Dave Richards has been given a leading role in England's campaign to host the World Cup.

He was left off the bid board when the first appointments were made before Christmas but will now be one of three deputy chairmen along with Football League chairman Lord Mawhinney and Manchester United chief executive David Gill.

Football Association chairman Lord Triesman had been under pressure to include a Premier League figure in a senior role among the team who want to bring the tournament to England in either 2018 or 2022.
